How do I get a library card?
Adults
Adults, ages 18 and over, must provide proof of identification and residency. The name of the library card application must match the name on the proof of identification. 

Proof of Identification and Residency can be:
A valid driver's license or valid Utah ID card with the current address listed. 
OR
A government issued picture identification (such as out-of-state driver's license or ID card, passport, permanent resident card, or military ID) AND one of the following which must be current and list name and address:

  • Lease agreement
  • Mortgage papers
  • Utility or cell phone bill
  • Bank statement or checkbook
  • Paycheck stub
  • Government-issued correspondence
  • Home or car insurance

Children
Children under 18 are eligible for a library card when their parent or legal guardian applies for and assumes financial responsibility for the child's card. 

Non-Residents (living outside Tooele City and inside Tooele County)
May apply for and purchase a library card for a period of one year to borrow library items. (See fines and fees schedule.)
I can't log in to the virtual branch. How do I get a PIN?

I've forgotten my PIN. How can I get a new one?
There are two things you can do to reset your PIN.

1) Come into the library with your photo ID to reset your PIN with a librarian.
OR
2) Use the "Forgot my PIN" feature through our online portal. Simply click on Log In or My Account and enter in your library card number. An email will be sent to the address on file to reset your PIN.  
My library card was lost or stolen. What should I do?
Please contact the library to report lost or stolen cards, as soon as you find out it is missing, in order to deactivate your card and prevent unauthorized use. 

Cards cannot be reactivated once they are reported lost or stolen. A replacement card may be obtained for a replacement fee. (See Fines and Fees Schedule).
Can the library send me a courtesy 3-day notice before my items are due?
Yes! The library will send anyone with an email address in their library account a 3-day notice before their items are due. Log into your library account to ensure we have the correct email address.
Can the library send me overdue notices via email?
Yes! The library will send anyone with an email address in their library account an overdue notice when their books are overdue. Log into your library account to ensure we have the correct email address.
I've moved. How do I change my contact information at the library?
There are two options for updating your contact information.

1) Update your contact information online by logging into your library account. 
OR
2) Come into the library with your Photo ID to change your address with a librarian.
My items won't renew. What should I do?

Why does my library account say "User is blocked"?
You have items on your account that are more than 14 days overdue and have been billed to your library account. You can check your library account for the titles needing to be returned. Once all items have been returned, any bills for unreturned items will be removed and you will be able to checkout more physical and digital items. 
I want to find out what I have checked out on my card. How can I do  that?
You can access your library account online to view items that are currently checked out, as well as their due dates. 
I live outside Tooele City, but inside Tooele County. What can I do?
Non-residents, living outside Tooele City and inside Tooele County, may apply for and purchase a library card for a period of one year to borrow library items. (See fines and Fees schedule).
Can I use the internet at the library with a laptop or portable device?
Yes! The library has Wi-Fi available to use with your laptop or other device. 

We also provide outdoor Wi-Fi from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. daily.
Does the library have computers for public use?
Yes! The library has computers with internet access and current, commonly used software for the public to use. 
How do I find a book?

To find a book or materials, please visit our Catalog Search.  You can find hard copy books available at the Library that you can place on hold and then pick up, or you can download eBooks and eAudiobooks from our catalog.  You must have a Library Card and login to the catalog in order to place holds or download materials.
How do I request a book or other Library item?
You must have an active Tooele City Library Card and you must fill out a Request for Purchase & Interlibrary Loan Form and submit it to the Library Director through email at chaser@tooelecity.gov or in person (128 West Vine Street, Tooele).
